Summary: The Registered Nurse functions as part of the healthcare team to provide support and timely healthcare delivery to achieve optimal quality outcomes. Will utilize the nursing process and critical thinking skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care provided to patients and their families. Supports and follows through with the vision, mission, and goals of Ponca Health Services.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Requires travel as a member of the COVID19 screening team. This includes travel to the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska (PTN) office sites and/or designated screening sites within Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.
  • Meets established standards of nursing practice and the primary functions for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients presenting for COVID19 screening.
  • Obtains patient consent for care and ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Obtains and documents health history, information on chief complaint, vital signs, and health risk factors and assesses disease condition.
  • Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.
  • Executes prescribed treatments/plans and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response.
  • Assists with and/or performs phlebotomy with proper labeling and handling of specimens.
  •  Ensures accuracy of lab order entry and collection, and completes appropriate documentation without error.
  •  Refers to/consults with health providers, care team, community resources and Tribal programs to prevent/resolve problems or concerns.
  • Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Documents patient assessment and intervention data using electronic health record.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes.
  • Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management; i.e. contact tracing, surveillance, and preparation of reports.
  • May act as team lead for other nursing staff.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with Local/State/Federal agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Relationships and Authority:

Incumbent will have supervisory duties.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

  1. This position will be located in diverse settings to include office, public sites, and outpatient clinic settings. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during work hours. Is subject to emotionally upset patients, family
  2. Work may be stressful due to continual interaction with others
  3. Occasional evening, weekend and overnight work may be required.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  1. Associates' or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  2. Licensed Registered Nurse in Iowa or Nebraska.
  3. CPR and ACLS Certification.
  4. Computer proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  6. Valid driver's license and be insurable.
  7. Successfully pass drug and alcohol testing, motor vehicle, education, character, and criminal background checks.
  8. Able and willing to travel.
  9. Current knowledge of HIPAA regulations.

 

 

Preferred:

    1. One or more years' experience working as a Registered Nurse.
    2. One or more years' supervisory experience.
    3. One or more years' experience working with Native Americans or Native American organizations.
    4. Knowledge of Public Law 93-638, Public Law 101-484, and the Privacy Act of 1974.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Preference will be given to Ponca Tribe of Nebraska members or members of a federally recognized tribe. However, all qualified individuals are eligible.
